Naughty Dog revealed this week that, in addition to the new title currently in development—Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet—the studio is also working on two separate The Last of Us projects. The sci-fi action game was showcased at The Game Awards 2024, with an official reveal promised for next year. Reportedly, following the release of Intergalactic, Naughty Dog plans to return to one of its most successful franchises: Uncharted.
According to a report published by MP1st on Wednesday, Naughty Dog is developing a new Uncharted game. Citing sources familiar with the matter, the report states that the series’ iconic protagonist, Nathan Drake, will appear in the game in some capacity. While he may not serve as the main character, he could feature as a supporting character or make a cameo appearance.
This Uncharted title is believed to be a brand-new project rather than a remake or remaster of an existing entry. Additionally, the report notes that the game is being directed by Shaun Escayg, who previously directed Uncharted: The Lost Legacy—the standalone expansion to Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
Naughty Dog’s Multiple Projects
Naughty Dog is currently focused on its next title, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, which is expected to launch in 2027. According to a report by MP1st, the studio’s next project following Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet will be a new Uncharted game, with development on The Last of Us Part III commencing only after that. Any projects following Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet will likely take several years to reach release.
Uncharted is one of Sony’s most enduring PlayStation franchises, yet it has been dormant for nearly a decade. The series’ last mainline entry, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, arrived on PS4 in 2016, followed by the The Lost Legacy expansion in 2017. Both titles were remastered and released in 2022 as Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection.
Earlier this week, Naughty Dog studio head Neil Druckmann confirmed that the studio is developing two new projects set in the world of The Last of Us. While he did not reveal specific details, he indicated that these titles would expand the franchise’s universe beyond the scope of the first two games.
On the other hand, full details regarding StarCraft will be revealed sometime in 2027. Previous reports indicated that Naughty Dog and Sony plan to launch this PS5 game next year.
