Marvel Television head Brad Winderbaum has clarified that Daredevil: Born Again was meant to wrap up after three seasons, even though earlier comments pointed to a much longer run.
Addressing the series finale news during a recent interview on The Brandon Davis Show, Winderbaum explained that while the news took many fans by surprise, capping the story at Season 3 was part of the overarching vision from early on.
“We always planned to go to 3 seasons eventually, because we felt like, well, the original series was 3 seasons, Born Again is 3 seasons. They sit like omnibuses or comic books on a shelf, like two 3-volume comic runs, and then we take a breath and think about where the character goes next.”
Charlie Cox and the Cast Got a Proper Conclusion This Time
Star Charlie Cox echoed similar sentiments speaking at New York Comic Con, noting that ending Born Again came with far more forethought and emotional support compared to the abrupt cancellation of the original 3-season Netflix run years ago. According to Cox, the cast was informed in advance that Season 3 of Born Again would serve as the definitive final chapter for this specific arc.
However, eagle-eyed fans haven’t forgotten earlier statements. Prior to the premiere of Season 1, Winderbaum hinted at an ongoing annual release strategy:
“That’s the plan,” Winderbaum had said back in 2025. “Season 2 next year, and hopefully Season 3, and infinite seasons after that. I think this world is so rich and there’s so many stories to tell on the streets of New York.”
Whether shifted creative direction, narrative pacing, or internal ratings targets brought about the decision, the consensus now is that Season 3 was crafted intentionally as a proper climax rather than getting chopped without closure.
What’s Next for the Man Without Fear in the MCU?
While Born Again may be ending, the future of Matt Murdock in the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe remains a open question. Fans continue to hold out hope for long-requested crossovers, particularly pairing Daredevil alongside Spider-Man on the big screen.
As for Charlie Cox himself? He admits he’s as much in the dark as everyone else, but he’s already encouraging the fanbase to make their voices heard:
“I don’t know, man. I really don’t know,” Cox shared when asked if he will suit up again down the line. “I mean, maybe. Maybe. Don’t worry about Kevin Feige. Get ‘Save Daredevil’ started up. Get on their backs. The momentum, don’t take no for an answer. ‘Save Daredevil’ is my real superpower!”
